Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

Is therapy confidential?

You need to feel that you can trust me with your deepest fears, concerns and thoughts even if they include hurting yourself.

I will not reveal anything to anyone unless you give me permission.
I do not believe that your private thoughts and actions are anyone’s business.
This includes insurance reports or other physicians.
What goes on in your mind is your business. I hope you will share with me whatever you are thinking or feeling.

Not only I am the least judgmental person I know (I try to be very honest about myself) but I feel that trust is probably the most important aspect of treatment. (And any relationship)

Concerning thoughts about hurting yourself: I will make every effort to work with you to help and ensure your safety.
However, if I believe you are in danger and I feel that there is an increased risk, I must take additional measures and make every effort to insure your safety.

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and psychotherapist.
However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule. Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The therapist is required by law to notify the police.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself.

I will work with you to resolve any problem that comes up.
However i cannot read minds and the most important thing in therapy is that there be honesty between
the patient and therapist.
If you feel for any reason that there is a problem being honest with me, please may the effort to bring that up.
It is critical that we have an honest open and trusting relationship.
